So remind [O Muhammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman. 29 Or say they: a poet for whom we wait some adverse turn of fortune! 30 Say: 'Await! I shall be awaiting with you.' 31 is it their minds that prompt them [to say] this, or are they merely insolent people? 32 Or do they say: "He has fabricated it?" In fact, they will never believe. 33 (If they are truthful in this), then let them produce a discourse of similar splendour. 34 Did they come into being without any creator? Or were they their own creators? 35 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay! they have no certainty. 36 Or do they have your Lord's treasures in their keeping? Or have absolute authority over them? 37 Or do they have any stairs, climbing upon which they eavesdrop? So their eavesdropper should bring some clear proof! 38 Or has He (Allah) only daughters and you have sons? 39 Or askest thou (Muhammad) a fee from them so that they are plunged in debt? 40 Is with them the Unseen, and they write it down! 41 Or are they planning a conspiracy? So the conspiracy will befall only upon the disbelievers. 42 Do they have another god besides God? God is too exalted to be considered equal to the idols. 43 Even if they saw lumps falling from the sky they would say: 'A massed cloud' 44 so leave them alone till they face the Day on which they will be struck dumb, 45 A day on which their scheming will not benefit them at all, nor will they be helped. 46 But, verily, for those who are bent on doing evil, there is suffering in store [even] closer at hand than that [supreme suffering in the hereafter]: but most of them are not aware of it. 47 And be patient, [O Muhammad], for the decision of your Lord, for indeed, you are in Our eyes. And exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord when you arise. 48 And proclaim His Purity during the night, and when the stars turn back. 49
