EXHORT, then, [O Prophet, all men:] for, by thy Sustainer's grace, thou art neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or do they say: 'He is a poet, we are waiting for some misfortune to befall him' 30 Say thou: "Wait, [then,] hopefully; behold, I, too, shall hopefully wait with you!" 31 Or, do their intellects order them to do this? Or, are they an insolent people? 32 Or say they: He hath invented it? Nay, but they will not believe! 33 Then let them produce a statement like it, if they should be truthful. 34 Have they not been created by aught, or are they the creators? 35 Created they the heavens and the earth! Aye! they will not be convinced. 36 Or have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of them]? 37 Or have they any stairway (unto heaven) by means of which they overhear (decrees). Then let their listener produce some warrant manifest! 38 Has (God) daughters and they sons? 39 Or is it that you ask of them any recompense so that they should fear to be weighed down under the burden of debt? 40 Or is it that they have access to (the Truths in) the realm beyond sense-perception which they are writing down? 41 Or, do they desire to outwit? The unbelievers are the outwitted. 42 Or do they have a God besides Allah? Purity is to Allah from their ascribing of partners to Him. 43 (So obstinate are they that) even if they were to see some fragments of the sky falling down they would still say: “It is only a mass of cloud.” 44 Then leave them, till they encounter their day wherein they shall be thunderstruck, 45 when their stratagem shall be of no avail to them, nor shall they be succoured. 46 And surely those who are unjust shall have a punishment besides that (in the world), but most of them do not know. 47 And be patient upon your Lord’s command, (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), for you are indeed in Our sight; and proclaim the Purity of your Lord while praising Him, whenever you stand. 48 And in the night, give Him glory too, and at the setting of the stars. 49
