▼ 52 The Mountain

So remind [O Muhammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman. 29 Or say they: a poet for whom we wait some adverse turn of fortune! 30 say [to them], "Wait then: I too am waiting along with you!" -- 31 Does their reasoning prompt them to this, or they are a people rebellious? 32 What! They say, “He has invented the Qur'an”? Rather they do not have faith. 33 Let them then produce a recital like unto it (the Quran) if they are truthful. 34 Or, were they created out of nothing? Or, were they their own creators? 35 Did they create the heavens and the earth? No! They have no faith. 36 Or have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of them]? 37 Do they have a ladder (by which they can climb up to the heavens) and listen (to the angels) and come back to the rest of the people with clear authority? 38 Or has He daughters while you have sons? 39 Or, do you ask them for a wage, so that they become weighed down in debt? 40 Or do they have knowledge of the Unknown which they write down? 41 Do they design evil plans? The disbelievers themselves will be snared by their evil plots. 42 Or have they a god, other than God? Glory be to God, above that which they associate! 43 Even if they saw lumps falling from the sky they would say: 'A massed cloud' 44 so leave them alone till they face the Day on which they will be struck dumb, 45 A Day whereon their plotting will avail them not at all, nor will they be succoured. 46 Surely there are other torments besides this for those who are wicked, though most of them do not know. 47 And wait thou patiently the judgment of thy Lord; verily thou art before Our eyes; and hallow the praise of thy Lord when thou uprisest. 48 and glorify Him after the setting of the stars. 49

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
