EXHORT, then, [O Prophet, all men:] for, by thy Sustainer's grace, thou art neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or they allege, “He is a poet – we await a calamity of the times to befall him.” 30 say [to them], "Wait then: I too am waiting along with you!" -- 31 Is it that their faculties of understanding urge them to this, or are they but a people transgressing beyond bounds? 32 Or do they say, 'He has invented it?' Nay, but they do not believe. 33 Then let them produce speech the like thereof, if they are truthful. 34 Did they come into being without any creator? Or were they their own creators? 35 [And] have they created the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they have no certainty of anything! 36 Or have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of them]? 37 Or do they have a ladder whereon they can climb and attempt to listen (to what is transpiring in the Higher Realm)? Then, let any of them who has listened to it produce a clear proof of it. 38 Or has He only daughters and ye have sons? 39 Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down? 40 Or is it that they have access to (the Truths in) the realm beyond sense-perception which they are writing down? 41 Or do they want to entrap [thee in contradictions]? But they who are bent on denying the truth - it is they who are truly entrapped! 42 Or do they have a God besides Allah? Purity is to Allah from their ascribing of partners to Him. 43 And if they were to see a fragment from the sky falling, they would say, "[It is merely] clouds heaped up." 44 So leave them alone till they meet their Day, in which they will sink into a fainting (with horror). 45 when their stratagem shall be of no avail to them, nor shall they be succoured. 46 Truly, for those who do wrong there is a punishment besides that, though most of them do not know it. 47 So wait patiently for the Judgement of your Lord -- you are certainly under Our watchful eye. And glorify and celebrate the praises of your Lord when you rise up [from your sleep]. 48 And in the night time, also glorify His Praises, and at the setting of the stars. 49
