So remind [O Muhammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman. 29 Or they allege, “He is a poet – we await a calamity of the times to befall him.” 30 say [to them], "Wait then: I too am waiting along with you!" -- 31 Is it that their faculties of understanding urge them to this, or are they but a people transgressing beyond bounds? 32 Or say they: He hath invented it? Nay, but they will not believe! 33 Let them then produce a recital like unto it,- If (it be) they speak the truth! 34 Have they been created from nothing or are they themselves their own creators? 35 Have they created the heavens and the earth? In fact, they have no strong faith. 36 Do they possess the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the treasurers? 37 Have they a ladder up to heaven by means of which they can overhear? Then let their listeners bring a clear proof. 38 Or has He daughters while you have sons? 39 Or askest thou a hire from them so that they are with debt laden? 40 Do they have knowledge of the unseen, thus, are able to predict (the future)? 41 Do they want to hatch some plot? Those who deny the truth will be the victims of the plot. 42 Or do they have a God besides Allah? Purity is to Allah from their ascribing of partners to Him. 43 And if they should see a fragment of the heaven falling down, they would say: it is only clouds piled up. 44 So leave them alone until they face the day when they will be struck dead from terror 45 A Day whereon their plotting will avail them not at all, nor will they be succoured. 46 And verily, for those who do wrong, there is another punishment (i.e. the torment in this world and in their graves) before this, but most of them know not. And proclaim the praise of thy Lord when thou arisest, 48 And in the night, give Him glory too, and at the setting of the stars. 49
