The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
