The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
