The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the setting star, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 then came down close 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
