The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Star when it setteth, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
