The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 and taught to him 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
