The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
