The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
