The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the setting star, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
