The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
