The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
