The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
