The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
