The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
