The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
