The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 and taught to him 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
