The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 and taught to him 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
