The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
