The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
