The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 and taught to him 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
