The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
