The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the setting star, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 and taught to him 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he approached and descended 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
