The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 and taught to him 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
