The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
