The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the setting star, 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
