The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
