The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
