The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it descends, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 and taught to him 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
