The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
