The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
