The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
