The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
