The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 and taught to him 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
