The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 and taught to him 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
