The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it setteth. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 and taught to him 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
