The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
