The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
