The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
