The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
