The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
