The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
