The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
