The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
