The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
