The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 and taught to him 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
