The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the declining star, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 and taught to him 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 then came down close 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
